In this modern take on the classic fairy tale, a young girl (who is treated terribly by her stepsisters) experiences a bit of magic from her fairy godmother and is able to go to a ball dressed as a beautiful princess. There, she falls in love with a prince. The following day, she goes back but leaves her slipper. The prince then searches the kingdom to find her, and eventually, thanks to the slipper, he does.
As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can't control, a destiny he doesn't want, and a mythology textbook's worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus's master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods.
